Overseas Registration

It is recommended that graduates organise their paperwork prior to departure.

To obtain overseas registration, you will need to:

  1. Contact the relevant overseas registration board and organise the appropriate forms to be sent to the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery.
  2. Complete the Overseas Registration Form and return it to the Faculty, along with the relevant processing fee (see details below).

The Faculty provides registering authorities information which is true and correct according to our records which we are able to verify. Overseas application papers are always forwarded to the registration board or agency in question at their request. Students are able to request a copy of this information, however this is not done as a matter of course and it is the Faculty's standard practice to email applicants advising them that the information has been sent.

Registering in the United Kingdom

Due to new European Union regulations, students from Australia are required to complete clinical hours in excess of those completed in a degree course. The UK will consider your new graduate year in a hospital as part of the requirements but you will need to provide detailed documentation of this year.

If you are completing your new graduate year at present we recommend that you collate this information as you progress through the year. If you have finished the year you will need to contact the hospital you were employed at to obtain this information.

Provided that the relevant paperwork and processing fee has been submitted, your application and the information supplied by the Faculty will be forwarded to the relevant Nursing Board within 3 to 4 weeks.

How soon can I follow up on the application process?
You will receive an email informing you that your documentation has been sent to the relevant organization.
Please do not contact the Faculty until 3 to 4 weeks after the lodgement of the application as it slows down processing time. After this time, you are welcome to email Nada Dunda at n.dunda@usyd.edu.au, or phone 9351 0677 to check on the progress of your application.

Can I approach academics at the Nursing faculty directly if I need to check and establish links between what I have studied at the University of Sydney and what is required for by the Nursing Board overseas?
Every application is unique. If required, you would be advised to make an appointment with the relevant academic.

Would it be a good idea to lodge an application from overseas?
It is prudent to sort all your paperwork onshore before your departure. You also remain easily contactable by the University whilst you remain onshore. Due to unforeseen circumstances, if you do have to leave the country while your application is being processed, please inform the faculty as soon as possible together with your contact details overseas. The University accepts no responsibility for any expenses incurred during the waiting period.
