Ms Hilary Gatward

Hilary is a registered nurse and midwife currently completing the last semester of her Masters of Clinical Nursing program. She plans to enter the Masters Honours program.

Research interests and areas of expertise

Hilary has research interests in women’s health, experiences of induction of labour. Other interests include the relationship of anxiety levels and pain relief in labour, as well as self-esteem and breast-feeding problems and the ongoing problems that breast-feeding women experience once they leave hospital.

Current projects

At present Hilary is working on the following project:

  • A qualitative phenomenological research project on women’s experiences of induction, based at Royal Women’s Hospital.

Hilary teaches in the Master of Nursing Practice in 2 units: Observation in Nursing and Applied Nursing Practice.

Hilary has also taught 2 units of the old undergraduate course, Nursing Concepts and Applied Nursing practice, in Family Heath undergraduate course and units in Midwifery Graduate Diploma of Nursing

Community work

Hilary is involved in the Delta Society Pet partners program, which involves regular visits to a nursing home with her dog.
